A recent trip to the market resulted in me adopting both a white and red onion. Their future was already planned, and it was a future of substance.

Once I got those onions home I introduced them to their Spanish, sweet, and green siblings. They had to share a glass, refrigerator drawer, a cool room they’d occupy together until it was time to move out to fulfill their life purpose.

My plan was to use each onion for different dishes.

The white was purchased for liver and onions over fluffy, seasoned rice. The red to add kick and color to a crusty baked bread smothered in cheese. Green is destined to swim in a savory broth for kale with roasted sausage. Spanish and sweet are set to garnish traditional and American tacos respectively.

Staring at those onions in their chilled living quarters became an unexpected lesson in diversity. Different in spice, color, and, in some cases, origin, all their purposes were to enhance. I began to question why someone can be so cold to someone else who looks different than them.

Throughout time we’ve combined flavors to create new tastes. We’re all ingredients for unlimited dishes on a shared global menu.

Variety is the spice of life.

Everything I’ve done up to this point in my life has prepared me for what’s to come. That’s called and referred to as experience. If you’re reading this, please believe what you need is ahead of you too. That’s called and referred to as potential.
